Hot trend of coaching institutes in India: Is it beneficial or detrimental?

The business of coaching centres is sky-high in the recent years with every JEE or NEET aspirant rushing towards them, following the herd mentality. People often tend to show a very chauvinistic approach in this matter. They don't second guess anything and are ready to pour a major part of their hard earned money to these associations to make their children clear the competition exams and be successful in life, as they say.

Recently, the Tamil Nadu government warned private schools against publicity of coaching centres and also prohibited these schools from taking extra fee in the name of “special coaching classes” and any violation of the instructions will warrant stringent penal action by the department against such schools. This step has been taken in order to stop teachers and parents for forcing a particular career option without checking their aptitude and interests. Coaching centres are not completely detrimental but their benefits and drawbacks vary from student to student. They do provide you exposure to better teachers, better study material and a better student crowd but the cut-throat competition can often prove to be perilous and life-threatening.

Whether coaching institutes are good or bad depends completely on the student. It will be beneficial if students are ready to take up the extra knowledge and are ready to take the competition in a healthy but if they are able to cope up with the pressure and resort to ending their life because they feel that it’s the only plausible way out of this rat-race then it’s certainly wrong.
