UK universities call for reviving post-study work visa popular with Indians

Date: 5th Sep 2018

We are looking at strong resistance in support of international student by Universities UK (UUK), the umbrella body representing all British varsities. They are of the opinion that students should be allowed two years after completing studies, which will also benefit British employers when uncertainty linked to Brexit is leading to a dwindling labour pool.

Few days back at http://gkworks.in/ we posted an article which was then just a possibility but now actions are being taken to make the situation less hostile for international students which is great indication for people planning to go UK for study abroad degree. A visa rule popular with Indian students, which allowed them to work for two years after completing studies, should be revived to send a more welcoming message to international students at a time when Brexit is looming, UKuniversities said on Tuesday.

The key Migration Advisory Committee, which advises the government on immigration, is due to report on the impact of international students this month.
The ability to work in a skilled job for a limited period after graduation is, for many prospective international students, an important part of the overall package when deciding where to study.
This improved post-study visa would put UK on a par with what is offered by countries such as the US, Canada and Australia.

So the point is, even though it may seem that Brexit is making things look tough for study abroad the truth is they need us, without international students their economy will collapse. At http://gkworks.in/ we have been studying this pattern since a long time and eventually UK will turn back to its old policies within a few days.  For next update stay tuned and visit http://gkworks.in/study-and-settle-abroad/choose-country-university-study-abroad/ for more.

Entrepreneurs and founders learn through experience, and those who are successful share an ability to extract insights from their experiences--insights about what is broken, and how to fix it. The pursuit of problems represents the start of an entrepreneur’s journey, and for many aspiring entrepreneurs, seizing the opportunity to study or work abroad is a first and valuable chance to accelerate their journey by introducing fresh and different experiences into their lives.
Going abroad offers a unique opportunity to develop a more informed approach to critical thinking--a rare chance to draw connections between distinct experiences, derive the most efficient solutions, and create value. But even if aspiring entrepreneurs can’t go abroad, they should strive to apply the ‘abroad mindset’ to their everyday life--to detect opportunity through experience, and master the art of problem seeking. After all, only once one becomes an effective problem seeker, can one become an effective problem solver.

House for investment and house for living

With the immense increase in development and population since the past few decades a lot of changes have taken place in the economy, one of them is the extravagant increase in the property prices, which was a given keeping in mind the growth of population, it was portraying the much milder version of the survival of the fittest or rather the survival of the ‘richest’.

Things are comparatively still easier for citizens of B grade and preceding cities under the CCA classification which has now been abolished, in comparison to the A grade cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore etc. where a major section of their income goes in their accommodations be it for owning purpose of buying or renting. The prices of flats in some of the posh or even decent locations in Delhi or Mumbai are sky high. For a decent 2 BHK flat in Bandra you’ll have to be paying around 3 Lakhs per month as the EMI and if you’re renting the same flat you’ll have to paying around 50,000 per month.

Now the question arises whether buying should be the preferred option or renting. For a first generation metropolitan city citizen who doesn’t own any property in the city, owning seems like a nice idea merely for the sense of security. As believed in the stereotypical Indian context owning a house and then further a car are the milestones of every individual’s life, considering that idea living on rent even though being financially capable of owning a house seems absurd but so does spending 75 to 80% of your monthly income on EMI.

In that case, the best alternative is to buy a house at a comparatively distant place which is more affordable and continue to live at your rental abode near your workplace and other necessary amenities. So if hard times ever befall upon a person they’ll still have a place they own and can call a home. The difference of house for the purpose of investing and for the purpose of buying needs to be correctly understood by people. Most people don’t consider the idea of buying a house for investment purposes until they have one or two houses for living purposes but with correct rationality and mindset even the first house that a person buys can serve the purpose of investing.

Having fun everyday!?

This statement might seem absurd to a major section of the modern generation in which most of the individuals are extremely workaholic and career centric and are so involved in their work that they like to think or believe that work is worship.

In metropolitan cities like Delhi, Bombay etc. the weight is further increased by the immensely time consuming and exhausting commuting form place to place. Spending 2 to 3 hours just to reach your work destination is an everyday phenomenon so not having time for any other task or every leisure time for that matter is nothing out of the blue. So much so that they have completely eradicated the leisure aspect of their life. They eat, breath, live work. This ideology however, is very wrong. Work is sorely one aspect of our lives but it’s not everything. We work to live not live to work. For a stable and successful life we need to learn to manage these aspects and give equal emphasis to every single one of them.

We as human beings need to have a social life outside of our work places and homes. These serve the purpose of a sort of a purgatory release of our emotions and thoughts. Just a 20 to 30 minutes chit chat with our friends and acquaintances can successfully solve the purpose of helping us relax, catch up and socialise. For some this might seem like a waste of time and an extra dose of burden on an already exhausted body but however on the contrary, it will help you relax your body. This was the basic mantra of our preceding generations. They used to work then spend some time with their friends probably having a cup of tea exchanging their views on various random issues before going to home. Sure, it’s a much costlier task in today’s context and they might have had it a tad bit easier but inculcating this mantra in our own lives is going to be extremely rewarding.
