WHY WORKING IN SOCIAL SECTOR IS APPRECIATED IN MODERN TIMES
Non-government organizations (NGOs) are non-profit
organizations that work independently without the influence of the government.
NGOs are diverse and include many groups and institutions that are independent
of the government. They are organized at levels such as community, national,
and international. They run on findings from individuals, organizations, and
institutions. NGOs don't limit themselves to a particular cause or group of
people. All across the world various NGOs function and cater to all age groups,
causes, and gender. NGOs support the socio-economic development of a country.
They help in providing social justice, support development, and also preserve
human rights. All around the globe we can see examples of NGOs working against
poverty, water crisis, terrorism, and education, women sanitation, sustainable
living.
NGOs employ volunteers. A volunteer is a person who is
willing to offer his/her service to an organization. There are different types
of volunteers but all have the same aim to give back to society. There are
several benefits of volunteering in an NGO.
In today's fast-paced life nobody has the time to look at
others but themselves. Everyone is running behind money and their own lives.
People have forgotten about helping and looking out for others. Working or
volunteering in an NGO is one way to contribute to the upliftment of the
nation.
Volunteering in NGOs also aids personality development. One
becomes a good listener, speaker, and empathetic towards others' feelings. Over
the period a person develops communication, leadership, and decision-making
skills. One also gains confidence and this helps in enhancing overall
personality.
While working with NGOs one becomes a part of various events
that take place. There are a lot of networking opportunities where one gets a
chance to meet new people, exchange ideas and information with them, and vice
versa. NGOs give a humble and affirming life experience. They also affect a
person's decision making and life objectives. When one works with an NGO he/she
deals with the reality at the ground and gets to know the real situations.
Volunteering for NGOs also helps broaden perspectives and
change the way we see and value things.
Working in an NGO also makes a person open to various
cultures. While interacting a person can get to know about another person's
culture, traditions, etc.
Generally, wrong
perceptions such as people work at low wages, the task is tiresome, are
associated with NGOs. This is not the case. Hence volunteering for NGOs should
be prompted at an early stage. Nowadays many schools have added working for
organizations as a part of their curriculums. The National Service Scheme or
NSS is a scheme introduced by the government and has been made mandatory in the
Delhi University. It benefits both the students and society.
Working or volunteering in NGOs is always appreciated. First
and foremost it is for a novel purpose. It gives out the impression that the
person acts as a part of society and gives back to it.
The skillset gained, forms a significant part of the CV. One
can impress the employer with polished skills. The experience also makes the CV
stand out from others.
As mentioned above working in an NGO helps in overall
personality development. It gives the professional skills to meet the demands
of an organization. This shows that a person can meet with demands and crises
of an organization or institution where they work in the future.
When a person works with an NGO it shows that they are
connected to reality and know the hardships faced by people.
As the proverb goes It's never too late. One should
volunteer with NGOs. Even if you are working, you can volunteer on weekends,
festivals, or holidays. Contribute to NGOs on festivals, in winters, and
whenever possible to help the needy.
