Australia or Canada! What is best for you as study destination?
India is an emerging and developing country that
is home to approximately 1.38 billion people. However, despite the rapid
growth, it still lacks in a few fields and due to this lack, the young aspiring
students move out of India to pursue their higher studies. The most common
options of these young lads are either Australia or Canada.
This article highlights the main pros and
cons of these two places which will help you sort out which place suits you
better.
As we all know Australia and Canada were the
colonies of the British, just like India so they share the same democratic procedure,
a diverse association and a highly-spirited economy. Both these places have countless
opportunities for higher education and also for the immigrants who are in
constant search of fresh green pastures. They have perfect study destinations
for international students like ‘Land down under' and ‘Land of Maple' which
includes developed economies, state-of-the-art education systems, healthcare
and a happy balanced social life. It still makes most Indian students face a
dilemma to choose one of the two.
Standard of Education and Cost Efficiency
In the top 50 QS World University Ranking
2020, there were 5 Australian Universities and 2 Canadian Universities. It is
almost impossible to find a comparison between these two as they are equal in
the standard of education they provide. About affording education at cheaper
rates, you should go for Canada as the average tuition fees for having a UG and
a PG degree is 7 lakhs – 21 lakhs and 11 lakhs – 25 lakhs. On the other hand,
the average tuition fees for having a UG and a PG degree in Australia is 11
lakhs – 23 lakhs and 14 lakhs – 26 lakhs. You can go for either of the two if
money is not an issue for you.
Eligibility and Scholarships
It will be easy for you in Australia as you
are eligible with just 12 years of pre-university education whereas in Canada
you have to appear for SAT exams as one of the candidates. Canadian Government
and Universities provide many scholarships for international students based on their
merits, marks, financial conditions, achievements, sports, etc. Even in
Australia, scholarships are given in the form of grants, loans, a place to stay
and fellowship.
Living
In the World Ease of Living Index, Australia
has consistently secured positions in the top 5. This is all because Australia
has high-level economic development, a qualitative educational system, diversity
and a liberal educational system. Canada is also a democratic and diverse
country with a stable and vibrant economy but still, Australia provides a better
standard of living.
Job Opportunities
Both of them have innumerable job
opportunities ranging from normal and common jobs to highly skilled jobs. Program
analysts, pharmacists, financial managers and assistants, construction workers,
construction managers, etc., are in good demand in Canada. Whereas Lawyers,
Core sector engineers, aircraft ground staff, aircraft operators, aircraft
maintenance staff, bankers, financial managers, bio-technician and miners are
in good demand in Australia. You can also get a Post Graduate Work Permit for
three years in Canada, where you can work and gain experience in the Canadian job
market. In Australia, you can also get a Post Graduate Work Permit for a tenure
of 2 to 5 years depending upon your skillset and qualifications achieved.
Immigration
Due to Australia’s and Canada’s highly
developed economies and sparsely populated areas, there is a great demand for
medium and highly skilled officers in both of these countries. If we consider
the processing time of Visa and Permanent Residency Applications, Canada is
faster than Australia. You are eligible to apply for a PR in Canada after 2
years of work experience whereas, in Australia, it takes you 3 to 4 years of
work experience and even after applying it can be complicated because of its
lengthy and tiring process.
Climate
There is a huge difference between these two
countries based on climate. Canada lies in the Northern part with an extremely cold
climate where summer barely even lasts for 2 months but the Canadian settlement
are at the southern border so the weather is warmer. Australia has a more
tropical influence climate with hot and humid in summer and warm and dry in the
winter. December and January are the hottest and July and August are the
coldest here.
In conclusion, if you love being in a cold
and snowy place, you should choose Canada or else if you want to see the bright
sun in the summers, you should choose Australia.
