When would we start valuing our life?

India has predominantly been a very religious country and houses people from various beliefs. The country that was once praised for it’s diversity living together in harmony has witnessed an enormous increase in religious intolerance and tension since the BJP government came in power back in 2014. People worry more about dismissing other religions and showing their religious superiority that they tend to forget the real meaning of faith. The important thing is that you seek out knowledge about the higher power. What you believe in is less important. Knowledge is power, as they say…

Still we have a vast amount of people who would go to any lengths to quench their thirst in order to attain enlightenment or to be closer to God, as they say. Today we witnessed the deaths of 5 people who were on their to Amarnath by a landslide that was triggered by flash floods in the Brarimarg region. Amid tight security, nearly 3,500 pilgrims left for the Amarnath yatra from Jammu as part of the sixth batch today. It has allegedly been stated that whoever dies while on their way to a pilgrimage has a direct shot at heaven. All these misconception impel people to risk their lives to attain salvation. Apart from that the word “religion” just crazily attracts that mass herd of people who have no rhyme or reason to their actions. Most of such people are hardly spiritual at the first place or even god loving, rather they are god-fearing. Many just visit these places in a pursuit of redemption as it is always easy to make superficial visits rather than changing the wrong habits within our own selves.

People fail to realise that life is the greatest and most precious gift given to us by God and we should protect it at all costs. Moreover, no God would want us to risk our lives in order to pay a visit to their pilgrims situated amidst extremely life threatening landscapes. We need to ask ourselves whether God does exist in idols inside concrete structures to which the unfortunate pilgrims were heading or do they exist within you and everywhere in this cosmos. The idea is not to kill people’s faith in God but to make them realise that God can be found everywhere in this Universe if the faith is real and we don't need to visit every temple in the world to search for him.
