REASONS TO TEACH RELIGION IN SCHOOLS

REASONS TO TEACH RELIGION IN SCHOOLS

Many instructors are hesitant to bring up the subject of religion in the school for a number of reasons. They might be concerned about offending a pupil, distorting a tradition, or favouring one religion over another. It is critical to address and overcome this apprehension in order to create respected school environment that effectively prepare kids for an increasingly varied and connected world. It is not only lawful but also an obligation for educators to teach about religion in an objective and academically competent man

ner. The following are reasons why:

  • The student population at our school is increasingly diversified.

Teachers must create opportunities for all students to discuss distinctive aspects of their identities in order to make students from less recognized cultures and religious traditions are more included comfortable in their learning communities. As their classmates learn more about these differences, the likelihood of exclusion and bullying reduces.

  • Students have the right to religious freedom in school.

Teachers and administrators in schools are subject to the bound as employees, and are so obligated to be religiously neutral while doing their jobs. School employees should avoid discrimination against students by:

  • instilling a certain religious belief in students

  • requiring or coordinating prayer

  • religious symbols being placed on school grounds

  • praying in front of a group of students

  • a preference for religion above non-religion

  • observing holidays in a religious manner

  • Hate crimes motivated by religion are becoming more common.

Many of the perpetrators of violent hate crimes are students: roughly one in five were still under the age of 18. Educators may help battle these alarming figures and contribute towards a more peaceful society by educating pupils to respect and appreciate people of diverse religious beliefs.

  • Religious literacy is essential for a very well education.

Students must comprehend the significant impact of religion on history, politics, culture, and society if they are to function as internationally competent citizens. They should be aware of fundamental religious facts and concepts, as well as the diversity which exist within every system of belief over time and space. It's also vital to be familiar with key religious writings, and it's acceptable to learn such books in schools as long as the objective is instructional rather than personal or devotional.

Educators must develop conditions in their classrooms which allows for continuous and sensitive conversation regarding religious differences in order to better prepare for this problem. If religious tensions emerge, they can be dealt with more carefully and efficiently this way.
