Psychometric Test – Their Scope, Importance, And Insights
The book Psychological Assessment and Testing: Introduction to
Psychology defines psychometric test as "Psychometrics test has its roots
in the process of psychological measurement, which is a structured technique
used to observe and evaluate people’s behaviors and make inferences about the
underlying attributes that stimulate that behavior".
The factors that can be evaluated by this test are talents, attitudes,
strengths, personality traits, mental troubles, educational success.
A most agreeable career for a person can be evaluated by making a list
of preferences, interests, and dislikes. But these factors can decide the
success rate of the person. By evaluating certain other objective factors we
can make an apprised choice.
This does not suggest that an examination can give us an accurate result
about our career selection. 3 factors that should be considered for an apprised
choice.
What Constitutes A Good Objective
Psychometric Test?
Following are 3 factors that should be considered for an apprised choice.
- Reliability- We
can consider a test reliable if we get the same conclusion even if the
circumstances of the test such as the supervisor, distinct test format,
distinct way of giving marks, etc.
- Validity- We
can consider a test valid if it evaluates the accurate factor that needs
to be assessed. For instance, an IQ test should determine the intellectual
score of a person.
- Norms- The
book Psychological Assessment and Testing: Introduction to Psychology
defines this factor as "Norms are sets of scores obtained
by representative groups of people for whom the test is intended".
The scores received from these combinations assist as the foundation for
reading personal scores. SAT is a test example with established standards.
Although these 3 points are essential components of a genuine test, not
all test varieties need standards as bases. Moreover, recognizing the sample
size needed to produce a standard for each performed analysis and the
conventional characteristics of the area, producing a standard for each test is
very tiresome.
