CAREER DAMAGING SOCIAL MEDIA MISTAKES

CAREER DAMAGING SOCIAL MEDIA MISTAKES

Social media has always been that platform where you could express your thoughts and relate with like minded people. This could create new networking for professionals or new career opportunities. But one wrong step, and it could be offensive enough to disturb your career and personality. Below given are some points that one should keep in mind while exercising your freedom of expression in social media.

1. Complaining about your boss:
Ranting about your dissatisfaction with the boss or job on online platform is a trouble you would not want yourself to be associated with. However private you make your posts, this is a clear description of your attitude and could affect you sooner or later.

2. Sharing your new job offer:
A job offer made to you is always confidential and taking it to social media might highlight how unreliable you are. This might even result in revoking any future offers.

3. Plagiarizing:
Plagiarism is clear indication of how incapable you are of producing one's own content let alone acknowledging the use of someone's intellectual property. This black mark stays along with you and has the potential to damage your career.

4. Use of texting language:
The practice of resorting to text language might get you straight into the lazy list and could damage your employment chances. Use of proper spellings and grammar in your social media profiles, like Facebook and LinkedIn could reflect your professionalism and literacy.

5. Crude comments:
The comments that you make that might have the potential to inflict offence and hatred on others might be viewed as a negative mark on your name. It is better to stay out of controversial comments which might be factors of judging your personality while the employee performs background checks on you.

6. Insulting customers:
Similar to indulging in complaining about your boss, mocking or complaining about your customers is equally bad. It is your duty to respect the differences in needs and behaviours of your customer.

7. Bragging about alcohol use:
Social gatherings might want get you to clink the glass but bragging of these practices on your social platforms can have you in a bad place, if you work in respectable fields like teaching or research. You represent your company or institution and might put them in a bad position by doing so.

8. Clear display of drug use:
It is advisable that you do not resort to posting anything like legalization of drug usage, even if you personally support the notion. Companies nowadays have drug use screenings and you might end up putting yourself at a risky position.

Keeping these points in mind, be wise about what you post and express online.
